Fibromyalgia affects mostly women, but men account for 10 to 20 percent of fibromyalgia patients. As a result of being a small part of the affected population, there have been very few studies on the effects of fibromyalgia in men, both as patients and caregivers.
“Fibromyalgia has a reputation of affecting more women than men, but I am certain that the disease is far more prevalent in men than is reported in the data,” “It’s a perfect disease to stay under the radar for men since men are saddled with the harmful belief that pain is something to endure and not report.” – Will Rowe, American Pain Foundation.
To try to start accumulating information on men and fibromyalgia, the National Fibromyalgia Association and the American Pain Foundation are joining with the Men’s Health Network in conducting an online survey.
“This survey will help us understand what men know, or more importantly don’t know, about fibromyalgia, its symptoms, and a man’s willingness to discuss any pain, discomfort, fatigue and other signs of the condition with his physician,” Scott Williams of Men’s Health Network says.
To participate in the survey, go the to Online Fibromyalgia Survey website.

I’m only 21, I was diagnosed about a year ago. Since then I’ve been to numerous doctors and tried many different drugs, etc. (the usual story). I’ve been on Prozac, Cymbalta, Savella, Soma, Yrica, Zoloft, and ambient. The Ambien has been a life saver for my sleep, but nothing helps my pain or numerous other symptoms. I used to buy Lortab (hydrocodone), I feel like I’ve tried everything (as I’m sure all of you do) and no one understands. I feel like fibro has taken my whole life away… including my personality (which hurts the most). Does anyone know of anything that works… even a little? I don’t want to live like this anymore!
